General

Q: Is Italy safe? [+]

A: Italy is one of the safest places in the world.  Uniformed personnel are visible everywhere and cameras monitor most public sites.

Q: What about Pick-Pockets? [+]

A: Theft is a big problem.  And the most prolific perpetrators aren't the obvious gypsies and homeless types.  Well dressed and elegant pick pockets ply their trade with prolific efficiency.  They do not carry weapons or attack their "marks".  That being said, common sense and dilligence will keep you free from the hassle of being "picked".

Q: Can I drink the water? [+]

A: The finest water in the world feeds Rome from the hills surrounding the city.  These aquaducts have a 3000 year proven track record. Carry a bottle or canteen with you and fill up during your strolls through Rome, especially in the summer.  The numerous fountains and watering holes are perhaps the finest free gift that Rome offers to her residents and guests.

Transportation

Q: Should I take Mass Transit? [+]

A: By all means. The busses, subways and trams are numerous and arrive regularly.  The Roma Pass is a good idea as well. It gives you free access to public transportation and admission to 2 tourist locations including the Colosseum.

Q: Do I need a visa? [+]

A: Usually not. Check with your home nation. People planning on an extended stay may need to execute a procedure or two.

Goods

Q: Can I bring back goods from Italy? [+]

A: Of course. Check with your home nation for specific regulations.  Most places will ship your purchases, often for free with big orders.  A good idea is to shop at the duty free stores at the international airports.  Items purchased here are legally admitted to the point of entry from Italy.
